Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology considers the career development of every student a primary responsibility. Career counseling is conducted through the office of career services, department chairs and the faculty.
Throughout its history, the College has assisted its students and graduates in securing meaningful internships and employment that relates to the majors offered. Leaders in aviation, aerospace, manufacturing, engineering design, public utilities, local state and federal government, to name a few, seek the College’s graduates.
The office of career services provides ongoing industry updates for both continuing and graduating students. The College is also committed to lifelong learning and advisement on career development issues for its alumni.

Vaughn College is so confident that it prepares its graduates for employment that it is offering a guarantee for those who meet certain criteria. If an eligible student is not employed full time in their field of study one year after graduating, and conducting an active job search, Vaughn College will provide reimbursement for one year of the graduate’s federal Direct undergraduate student loan payments. This course prepares students for the many career opportunities available to them as students and graduates. Topics covered include research, job, and internship search strategies, career competencies, and meeting with industry employers who are invited to classes to share employment opportunties and work culture experiences. This course graded as pass / fail. Prerequisites: The successful completion of FYE/FYI101.
Course Objectives
Students will learn the requisite (NACE’s Core Competencies) that employers are looking for in addition to experience and technical skills. There are eight career readiness competencies, each of which can be demonstrated in a variety of ways.

Online Career Services
The College has a career services online interface, enabling students and alumni to research full- and part- time job opportunities as well as internships. Participation is free, and students can search for job opportunities anytime, manage resumes and cover letters, and maintain a searchable profile for potential employers.
Internships
Vaughn offers and encourages students to take advantage of many available internship opportunities. Industry leaders and major companies partner with the College to provide this unique learning experience. The office of career services and department chairs assist students in selecting appropriate internship programs. Students can learn about available opportunities through the office of career services, faculty advisers and the Handshake, employment and internship posting services. As a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution, Vaughn College participates with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities to place students in internships with various federal agencies year-round.

Vaughn encourages its students to continue their education after graduation. Through the office of career services, students and alumni receive counseling when seeking a graduate degree as well as continuing education and professional development.
The Professional Development Workshop Series
Overview
Focused on preparing Vaughn students to attend industry conferences, the PDWS will provide career preparation and employment assistance through a variety of work-integrated learning workshops. The Professional Development Workshop Series (PDWS) goal is to enhance students’ unique career plan by offering students a beneficial means of connecting in the world beyond the classroom. Career consulting includes resume preparation, interview assistance, dressing for success, and networking guidance inclusive of conference preparation and meeting with Vaughn Alumni to practice and apply workshop outcomes.
Workshop Components
Industry Resumes
An overview of developing a resume targeted to the Aviation and Engineering industries. Participants will identify the relative components needed to develop a resume for their respective industries.
The Conversation: Effective Interviewing
A review of interview techniques and key principles on how to have effective conversations with employers and develop an elevator pitch. Students are asked to wear interview attire both in person and via Zoom to identify and review dressing for success.
Conference Networking
Attending key conferences is part of developing contacts for future internships and employment opportunities in addition to learning firsthand about industry practices and current trends. Students will learn how to identify Vaughn funding opportunities to attend conferences, preparing for conference attendance, tips on how to network at industry-specific conferences, and follow-up.
